Special thank you to Glenn in the restaurant, and our waitress, we forgot to get her name, but know she is doing her masters in geography, and wish her well with that, they went truly out there way to help us celebrate our 40 th wedding anniversary, they laid a lovel table for us, and gave us a complimentary bottle of fizz, which we never expected, but very grateful for! The restaurant was very busy that night, and the service remained excellent. This description has not been updated for over a year and may be out of date. Top marks to all of the staff, without exception, all so very friendly and helpful. Good access to city centre via bus or tram, and some lovely attractions nearby. The hotel was so light and airy, very clean, room was of very good proportion. My husband and I have just had a lovely weekend stay at this hotel via travelzoo, it represented very good value for money. Overall, the hotel is reasonable, and if weren't for the lack of A/C I'd happily rate 4 out of 5. For our corporate guests, we are the ideal hotel for business meetings, team away days and training. The positive is if you have a car there is plenty of free car parking, which we took advantage of as we were exploring the countryside. The Orchard hotel & Restaurant is an eco-friendly venue consisting of 202 bedrooms, 6 meeting rooms, a brasserie and is located next to the East Midlands Conference Centre. Location Clearly if you're looking at reviews you know its not a city centre location, so it's not ideal if that's your aim, although there are public transport links close by to get into the city centre. Staff The staff were in general helpful and friendly, despite the apparent failure to check on the A/C, which in fairness I must admit they comped some of our dinner costs when we checked out because of that oversight. Dinner on Saturday night was a mixed bag, my wives pizza was a bit of a debacle, and my desert was not great, but starters (Goats cheese salad) was great, and a good quality steak for my main. A typical buffet style, with a good range of hot and cold options. Food & Drink We had breakfast each morning at the onsite restaurant, which was really good. Room Apart from the A/C issue, the room was reasonable, on the small side, but clean, with a well finished, good sized bathroom. So, that being said the hotel was otherwise good. ![]() so we got two relatively sleepless nights in a stuffy warm room. (Geez that helped) and we were told a maintenance person would come and check on the system, but no one ever eventuated. The hotel was fully booked, so we weren't given a room switch, when offered a fan for the room, we got provided a little desk fan. With the temperatures in England this summer we were hoping for a cool stay, relaxing stay but not what we got. The issue we had was that the air-conditioning in the room just didn't work very well at all. ![]() ![]() I debated about the actual rating to provide, but settled on Average.
